A resident of the state of Virginia is accused of sending online threats to US Vice President Kamala Harris – days after the start of her presidential campaign, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
A federal court in Virginia on Friday charged Frank Carrillo with threatening the vice president in a series of social media comments.
Harris is the US Democratic presidential candidate who will face former head of state Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, in the November 5 presidential election.
“Kamala Harris needs to be burned alive and I will do it myself if someone else doesn’t,” is one of his comments quoted in the case documents. On another occasion, he said Harris would “regret trying to be president.”
His comments were published on July 27, six days after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed Harris to take his place as the Democratic nominee.
On his profile, Carrillo also posted comments against Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
According to court documents, FBI agents seized a rifle and a handgun during a search of Carrillo’s home. He is expected to make his first court appearance today.
U.S. Justice Department officials are concerned about what they say is a spike in threats against government officials in the United States.
Trump was injured in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally last month. Authorities have not given a motive for the shooting.
