It is similar to Sars, which between 2002 and 2003 infected 8,000 people and killed an unspecified number of around 800. The new virus from China is called 2019-n-CoV and belongs to the coronavirus family, which causes breathing problems. From China they confirm human-to-human transmissibility but, for now, contagion by air is excluded. So far 2019-n-CoV is associated with around 200 confirmed cases and 3 deaths. The main symptoms are fever, cough, cold, sore throat and severe lung fatigue. It is treated like severe cases of flu, but there are no drugs or specific vaccines. According to the European Infectious Disease Control Center (ECDC), the risk of import and spread in Europe is limited. Concern is growing in China where, in view of the New Year, millions of people will travel by public transport.
