Serbia: Serbia taking decisive decision in foreign policy. Serbia has decided to ban visa-free entry to Indians. The ban will come into effect from January 1.

Until now diplomatic and official Indian passport holders were allowed to visit Serbia without a visa for 90 days and ordinary passport holders for 30 days. According to the new law, from January 1, 2023, Indian passport holders will not be able to travel to Serbia without a valid visa.

Serbia has taken this step to prevent illegal immigration and to comply with the requirements of the European visa policy. “The law that allowed all Indian passport holders to enter Serbia visa-free and stay up to 30 days has been withdrawn,” the Serbian government said in a statement.

Under the previous law, holders of diplomatic and official Indian passports were allowed to visit the country without a visa for 90 days. However, for ordinary passport holders, this period was 30 days. In 2017, Serbia allowed visa-free entry to Indians.

The Indian Embassy has issued a new instruction for travelers after the government of Serbia has changed the visa rules. That is, the Indian Embassy in the capital Belgrade has issued a statement informing Indian citizens about the change in visa rules.

‘From January 1, 2023, all Indian nationals traveling to Serbia will require a visa to enter the Republic of Serbia. The government of Serbia has scrapped the arrangement that allowed all Indian passport holders visa-free entry for a stay of up to 30 days in Serbia. Therefore, Indian nationals intending to visit Serbia on or after January 1, 2023, should apply for a visa at the Embassy of Serbia in New Delhi or at their country of residence’, the directive said.

Indians with valid Schengen visa, UK visa, or US visas or resident status in these countries can enter Serbia for up to 90 days, the notification said.
