Visit of the President of the World Bank to Niger: Bazoum and D. Malpass co-host a press conference

On a working visit to Niger, the President of the World Bank Group David Malpass and the President of the Republic Mohamed Bazoum co-hosted, this Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Center in Niamey, a press conference during the Group Chairman’s positioning speech.

This speech is part of the Spring 2023 meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In his introductory speech, the President of the Republic Mohamed Bazoum indicated that “Niger is honored by the visit of the President of the World Bank Group and to make his positioning speech in the perspective of the general assemblies of the spring of the Bank. World”.

President Bazoum to make it known that “the relationship between Niger and the World Bank Group is a relationship that has taken on a lot of consistency in recent years”; while recalling that in 2010 there was an active portfolio of the World Bank in Niger of 300 million dollars and today “it is 4.7 billion dollars”.

For President Bazoum, this proves that “the World Bank Group takes an interest in our country, which is a country facing problems which the World Bank must deal with, and as is the case through the figures that I have just given, we consider that the World Bank Group has understood what it has to do in Niger”.

This visit, announced the Head of State, comes “to reinforce once again this quality relationship that we have with his institution and President Malpass will have the opportunity to put his fingertips to the problems with which we are confronted throughout the African continent”.

The President of the World Bank Group Mr. David Malpass, for his part, was delighted to be in Niger and that his institution is working to provide support to Niger in particular and to Africa in general.

Mr. David Malpass noted that ”Niger is facing problems such as climate change, education and despite these constraints, it presents many opportunities that can enable it to develop”.

The President of the World Bank Group to announce that his institution wishes “to build schools in order to give better education to children, and also the creation of power stations to provide more electricity”.

It should be noted that the presentations by the President of the Republic and the President of the World Bank Group were followed by questions for which they clarified the concerns of journalists.

It should also be noted that this press conference took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, members of the government and several other guests.
