Visual artist Mohamed Bennani bows out

Rabat – Visual artist Mohamed Bennani died on Wednesday in a clinic in Kenitra at the age of 80, following an illness, we learned from the Moroccan Union of Professional Visual Artists.

A native of Tetouan, the deceased, considered one of the greatest Moroccan visual artists, began his artistic career with a first exhibition in Tangier at the end of the 1970s.

After studying at the Al Quaraouiyine University in Fez, the late man won a scholarship in 1962 to the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, from where he graduated with a degree in fine arts, drawing and sculpture. He also lived and worked in Paris as part of an artistic residency.

The late Mohamed Bennani participated in numerous exhibitions in Morocco and abroad and his works are exhibited in the most renowned museums around the world.

In 2008, he was decorated with the Royal Wissam of the Order of Officer on the occasion of the inauguration of the National Library of the Kingdom.
