Vitoria and Hernani celebrate tributes to ETA prisoners in their patron saint festivities

The streets of the Gipuzkoan town of Hernani have displayed banners this weekend with the motto “Ez gaude denok, etxean nahi ditugu (We are not all here, we want you at home)” as a tribute to ETA prisoners. Banners with photographs and silhouettes of ETA prisoners have been repeated through the streets as decoration during the patron saint festivities. A situation that the COVITE victims’ group has denounced.

You could see the faces of the 13 ETA members who descend from the town of Hernani, governed by EH Bildu. The party program on Saturday also included a march in favor of the prisoners, coinciding with the big day. And on Friday a toast to them during the San Juan festivities.

COVITE has also denounced that at the festivities in the Judimendi neighborhood, in Vitoria, amnesty has been requested for two other ETA prisoners: Diego Ugarte and Roberto Lebrero.

Diego Ugarte was convicted of the murder of Fernando Buesa and his escort Jorge Díez. And Roberto Lebrero was sentenced for placing three bombs in a discotheque in the Navarrese town of Lacunza. According to the association of victims of terrorism, Roberto Lebrero is in the third degree of prison.

On Friday, in the Judimendi neighborhood, in Vitoria, there was also a demonstration in favor of the release of the ETA members. “And so, in a festive and relaxed atmosphere, the Abertzale left takes the opportunity to spread its message in favor of impunity for ETA members,” they detailed in a tweet.
