Nicanor Boluarte, despite having an arrest warrant and being in hiding, decided it was the right time to change lawyers in the “Los Waykis en la Sombra” case. His intention was to include the well-known lawyer Humberto Abanto in his defense, but he ran into a small obstacle: judge Richard Concepción Carhuancho.
The magistrate, with his usual firmness, insisted that Boluarte present the request personally, which, considering his situation as a fugitive, was quite complicated. Faced with this request that was impossible to satisfy, Abanto withdrew from the case, pointing out that the current lawyer, Vivanco, is one of the best criminal lawyers in Lima. “I wouldn’t do anything he couldn’t do,” he said. Thus, the intrepid Nicanor Boluarte “did not step on the stick” that the magistrate had given him, and will continue to deal with his case as a fugitive, until another judge revokes his request, as usually happens in appeals in Peru.
