Vivo wanted the arrival in Europe of its new flagship for this year to be famous. And for this, after two years of pandemic and virtual presentations, the Chinese firm has returned to acts ‘in person’ and has summoned the main European technology media to Berlin. The reason for so much deployment is the presentation of the new X80 Pro, a top of the range with everything you need to stand up to the leaders of the telephony market and photographic features that promise to be up to the task. The bad new? We are facing a terminal that costs almost 1,200 euros. And no, for now there will be no cheaper ‘normal’ version. For now, the X80 just (without the Pro tagline) stays in China.

The huge camera module of the Vivo X80 Pro draws a lot of attention. A square block with a large circle inside occupies almost half of the glass back of Vivo’s new flagship, and makes it clear, incidentally, that photography wants to be one of the strengths of the terminal. Not surprisingly, Vivo sticks out his chest and boasts of his association with ZEISS, the German photography giant that accompanies him from his X 60 model.

Now that collaboration has expanded to include a handful of new features and possibilities for image lovers. These include new ‘cinematic video’ modes, a new Cinematic Video Bokeh function that creates an oval blur and allows videos to be ‘different’, or new functions for the ZEISS Superb portrait function, which allows users to recreate a cinematic aesthetics.

the hand of ZEISS It is also noticeable, as was the case in the model from a year ago, in the effects that can be applied to night scenes. Highlights, for example, Pure Night Vision or HDR, which improves tones and highlights contrast even when light is scarce or extremely weak. In addition, all rear lenses on the X80 Pro use ZEISS T* Optical Coating, which improves light transmission, helps reduce flare, and manages both color and bokeh.

And all this governed by the new Vivo V1+ image processing chip, with its own Artificial Intelligence, and the photographic capabilities of the main processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the same one that a good number of flagships wear this year. The X80 Pro includes enhanced AI for videos, allowing the device to automatically identify the most suitable video mode for the lighting conditions of the recording, automatically switching to HDR video or night mode. In addition, the Vivo V1+ chip improves the visual experience of the screen, something that is especially noticeable in uses related to gaming.

With these powers ahead, the new Vivo X80 Pro has four rear cameras. The main camera is a 23mm lens and f/1.6 brightness, with a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GNV sensor and optical stabilizer (OIS). It is accompanied by a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, 13-mm f/2.2 lens, a 12-megapixel Gimbal-stabilized portrait camera, and an 8-megapixel periscopic lens with OIS. The front camera, meanwhile, is 32 megapixels.

a lot of power

The most powerful of Qualcomm’s processors is accompanied by a generous 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and its 4,700 milliamp battery does not heat up thanks to a large liquid vapor cooling unit, which maximizes the cooling surface and prevents the terminal from overheating and lowering its performance when it is subjected to very demanding tasks. The battery also includes a 80 W fast charging system and a 50 W wireless fast charging system, which allows the terminal to recharge to 100% in just over half an hour. The charger, a detail, is included in the box.

Special mention deserves the new 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, located under the screen and that allows us to register our fingerprint with a single touch, instead of the nearly 20 that traditional optical scanning needs. Once registered, our fingerprint will unlock the terminal in just 0.2 seconds, one of the fastest times in the industry.

The new Vivo X80 Pro will be available from July 1 in Cosmic Black color at a recommended price of 1,199 euros.
