Voice of the People Party demands amending the agreement signed with the UN mission

by times news cr

The Voice of the People Party called for a review of the agreement concluded between the Libyan government and the United Nations in 2012 regarding the status of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, which was not published and remained completely confidential.

In a statement obtained by “Ain Libya”, the party expressed its grave concerns about this agreement, noting that it had recently obtained a copy of it.

The statement noted that a careful analysis conducted by the Voice of the People Party of the terms of this agreement reveals serious loopholes that threaten national sovereignty and weaken the ability of the Libyan state to protect the interests of its people.

The party explained that this agreement exaggerates the protection of members of the UN mission by expanding the granting of diplomatic immunities and privileges that deprive the Libyan judiciary of its powers, grant the mission unrestricted freedom of movement, and allow it to establish areas outside the state’s control. These broad immunities make it difficult to hold any member of the mission accountable for any illegal actions, and weaken citizens’ confidence in national justice.

The Voice of the People Party called for amending the terms of this agreement that conflict with national interests, stressing that amending the terms must include clear mechanisms to ensure that mission members respect Libyan laws.
