Volkswagen has announced cheaper versions of the Virtus and T-Cross models for the 2025 lineup. The Sense variant focuses on the cars’ cost-benefit ratio and will reduce prices by more than R,000.
The cheaper option is nothing new for the T-Cross SUV, but it’s coming to the compact sedan for the first time. Discover the new prices.
How does the cheapest Volkswagen Virtus cost
Before the arrival of Sense, the cheapest version of the Volkswagen Virtus was the 170 TSI, which starts at R$ 115,390. The new variant has a list price of R$ 103,990, with a saving of R$ 11,400.
The engine is the same for both: 1.0 turbo flex with front wheel drive, 116 HP and five-speed manual gearbox.
Standard items include air conditioning, six airbags, digital dashboard, LED headlights with daytime running lights, electric height adjustment, hill assist, electric steering and a multifunction steering wheel. The hubcaps are size 15.
As is the cheapest T-Cross Sense
The Volkswagen T-Cross is the one with the biggest price drop with the Sense version. The Base version (one above the Sense, which was the entry-level version) starts at R$142,990. The new variant costs R$ 119,890, with a saving of R$ 23,100.
Visual and engine aspects remain similar to the rest of the models in the line:
- The engine is the 1.0 turbo flex with 128 horsepower, with six-speed automatic transmission;
- The variant includes six airbags, rear parking sensors and a multifunction steering wheel;
- Updates across the entire 2025 lineup include an appearance with LED headlights and electric height adjustment;
There are also new features compared to the old Sense version of the T-Cross: a 100% digital eight-inch panel and wireless mirroring for Android Auto and Apple Carplay, as well as LED headlights and taillights. The hubcaps are 16 inches. Both models are already available on the Volkswagen website.
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Automotive Expert
Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have a fascinating topic to discuss. Volkswagen has recently announced some significant price reductions for their 2025 lineup, particularly for the Virtus and T-Cross models. Joining us is renowned automotive expert, Dr. Maria Santos. Maria, thank you for being here!
Dr. Santos: Thank you for having me! It’s an exciting time in the automotive industry, especially with these changes from Volkswagen.
Editor: Absolutely! Let’s dive into it. Volkswagen’s new “Sense” variant aims to enhance the cost-benefit ratio by slashing prices by more than R$20,000. What do you think prompted the company to introduce these cheaper versions, particularly for the Virtus sedan?
Dr. Santos: It’s a strategic move, for sure. With rising inflation and increasing competition in the automotive market—especially in Brazil—Volkswagen likely recognized the need to offer more affordable options. By targeting budget-conscious consumers, they’re likely trying to capture a larger share of the market among those who want quality without an exorbitant price tag.
Editor: That makes sense. The Virtus is seeing a price cut from R$115,390 to R$103,990 for the new variant. How significant is this change in the broader context of the automotive market?
Dr. Santos: It’s quite substantial! Saving R$11,400 on a vehicle can be a game-changer for many buyers. This price drop not only makes the Virtus more accessible but also puts pressure on competitors to reevaluate their pricing strategies. In the compact sedan segment, where value-for-money is a major draw, this move could shake things up significantly.
Editor: That’s an interesting point. The T-Cross is getting this cheaper variant as well, but the Virtus is a new addition. How do you think the introduction of a lower-cost variant for the sedan could influence consumer preferences?
Dr. Santos: The introduction of the Sense variant for the Virtus could attract new buyers who may have previously leaned towards more affordable subcompacts or even used cars. It broadens the appeal of the Virtus beyond just those looking for a family sedan to also include younger buyers and new drivers. The right combination of price and features can sway consumer choices significantly.
Editor: Speaking of features, this new variant still comes with impressive specifications, including a 1.0 turbo flex engine and standard safety equipment. How important is it to maintain these features while offering lower prices?
Dr. Santos: Extremely important! Consumers are savvy and expect a certain level of quality and safety, even at lower price points. The fact that the Sense variant includes important safety features such as six airbags and a digital dashboard shows Volkswagen is committed to maintaining value. It’s about striking the right balance—offering affordability while not compromising on the essential features that buyers want in a modern vehicle.
Editor: It sounds like Volkswagen is making wise choices to remain competitive. As we look ahead, what do you foresee as potential challenges for companies like Volkswagen in this changing market?
Dr. Santos: One significant challenge will be adapting to consumer trends, especially as electric vehicles gain traction. As more buyers seek eco-friendly options, companies will need to innovate not just in pricing but also in sustainability. Additionally, maintaining quality while scaling down costs can be a tricky balancing act. It will be interesting to see how Volkswagen navigates these waters moving forward.
Editor: Insightful as always, Maria! As a final thought, do you believe initiatives like Volkswagen’s Sense variant will change the landscape for future auto launches?
Dr. Santos: I think we can expect to see more automakers exploring similar strategies. The emphasis on cost-effectiveness will likely grow, especially in markets that are price sensitive. It’s a reminder that in today’s automotive world, affordability and value are key drivers of success.
Editor: Thank you for your expertise and insights, Dr. Santos. It’s been a pleasure having you on the program!
Dr. Santos: Thank you! I enjoyed our discussion and look forward to the changes ahead in the automotive industry.
