The former head coach of the Latvian national team from Poland, Mihails Gogols, stopped the cooperation, which could not be combined with the new job at the club in Japan. In his place this summer, the Estonian specialist Vasilievs was chosen, who has previously proven himself successfully in clubs in his homeland, but has been working abroad for the last few years. He wanted to see as wide a range of candidates as possible in the camp, taking into account the participation of the Latvian U20 national team in the final tournament of the European Championship this summer and the priority of some players – beach volleyball. “The players were given individual tasks, and there was time to get moving. The preparation time is not short, however, we have to adapt, and we will plan the further training process according to the boys’ feelings after the first week,” the new coach did not hide that he is still getting used to the new conditions. The team will test its strength against the Czech national team twice in the first week of August in Riga.
The volleyball players will also play test matches against Denmark on August 2 and 3 in Riga, and a week later they will meet Estonia.
