The Global Super Match, a men’s volleyball festival that will capture the attention of off-season fans, has opened.

Last season’s V-League champion Korean Air and Italian men’s professional volleyball powerhouse Vero Valli Monza will face off in the 2024 Korea-Italy Men’s Volleyball Global Super Match Suwon held at Suwon Indoor Gymnasium on the 7th.

There have been several instances in the past where overseas teams were invited to play in Korea. The 2016 Korea-China-Japan Men’s Club International Volleyball Tournament and the 2018 Korea-Thailand Women’s Volleyball All-Star Super Match were held in Korea.

This is the first time that a European team has visited Korea and competed against a Korean team in a competition hosted by the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO).
Monza has world-class players, including Korean national team member Lee Woo-jin, middle blocker Taylor Avril (USA), opposite spiker Artua Schwartz (Canada), and setter Fernando Kreling (Brazil), who were active at this year’s Paris Olympics.

At the media day held the day before, Woojin Lee said, “I’m happy to visit Korea after a long time, and I’m proud that my colleagues like Korea,” and “I’m very nervous about having my official debut in Korea.”

Korean Air will also be sending out all of its main players. Opposite spiker Yosvani Hernandez (registered name Yosvani), outside hitters Jeong Ji-seok and Kwak Seung-seok, and setter Han Sun-soo will face Monza.

“We welcome Monza. We are also looking forward to it,” said Han Seon-su at the media day. “We want to show good performance and an entertaining game.”

Fans who came to the stadium cheered enthusiastically when the players’ names were called.

Before the game that day, the heroes who made the 2024 Paris Olympics shine threw the first pitch.

Shin Yu-bin, who won bronze medals in the women’s table tennis team event and singles, Lee Eun-hye (both Korean Air), who also won bronze medals in the women’s team event, and Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance), who won silver medals in the badminton mixed doubles, held volleyballs instead of rackets.

They appeared wearing the uniforms of Team Cobo, a V-League All-Star team, and threw the first pitch, drawing attention.

The match on this day will be won by the team that first wins three sets, and the same rules as the V-League will be applied, such as technical timeouts at 8 and 16 points in each set except for the fifth set. Considering that this is an event competition, video review will not be conducted.

Meanwhile, after finishing the match on this day, Monza will face Team Cobo at the same venue on the 8th.
