The replacement of the minister of defense will not take place this week, according to David Arakhamia

“Awaiting the appointment of the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Security Services of Ukraine. Personnel changes in the defense sector will not take place this week”MP David Arakhamia, leader of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s parliamentary group, said on Telegram.

Another Ukrainian MP from the presidential party, Mariana Bezuhla, claimed on Facebook that the reshuffle was “suspended until the end of the week” while the government “assess the risks” posed by such a change as Russian military pressure intensified in the east of the country.

On Sunday evening, Mr. Arakhamia announced that the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, would replace Oleksii Reznikov as defense minister. The announcement of this change came against a backdrop of expectations of a possible new Russian offensive and after corruption scandals which shook, among others, the Ministry of Defense, even if Mr Reznikov was not personally implicated.

According to Mr. Arakhamia, Mr. Reznikov, 56, will be appointed Minister of Strategic Industries. Oleksii Reznikov, however, said he was not made aware of his appointment to the Ministry of Strategic Industry, in an interview with the local television news site ICTV.
