Volume of Azerbaijani gas exports to Bulgaria announced

Bulgaria imported 44.6 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan in May 2024, and this figure is almost the same as in the same period last year, the statistical office of the European Union – Eurostat told Trend, Day.Az reports.

The total value of gas imports fell from EUR 27.1 million to EUR 24.7 million, representing a decrease of almost 9 percent.

In 2023, Bulgaria imported more than 920 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan for a total of 311.5 million euros.

In January-May 2024, the country received 218.4 million cubic meters of gas worth 117.7 million euros from Azerbaijan, compared to 220.3 million cubic meters worth 145.5 million euros in the same period last year.

It should be noted that Bulgaria has started importing gas from Azerbaijan via the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB), which was commissioned on October 1, 2022. The contractual volume of gas supplies via this interconnector is 1 billion cubic meters per year. The total capacity of the IGB is 3 billion cubic meters with the possibility of expansion to 5 billion cubic meters per year.

Azerbaijan supplies gas to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is part of the Southern Gas Corridor. Its capacity is 10 billion cubic meters, with the possibility of expanding to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
