Over 830 thousand tons of Kazakh oil have been transported through the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline from January to July 2024, a source at JSC KazTransOil confirmed to Trend.
According to the company, 837 thousand tons of oil were transported through the Aktau port in the direction of the BTC pipeline in January-July 2024. In July alone, 136 thousand tons of Kazakh oil were shipped through the pipeline.
KazTransOil also announced plans to transport an additional 120 thousand tons of oil through the Aktau port in the direction of the BTC pipeline in August 2024.
The company expects to transport up to 1.5 million tons of oil through the Aktau port in the direction of the BTC pipeline throughout 2024.
In 2023, Kazakhstan transported 1.392 million tons of oil via the BTC pipeline, which is five times more than in 2022.
The increase in oil transportation is part of Kazakhstan’s strategy to diversify its energy exports and reduce its dependence on Russia.
