Swedish death metal institution Vomitory is preparing to unleash its latest album, In Death Throes, on April 10th via Metal Blade Records. For over three decades, the band has been a cornerstone of the extreme metal scene, and this new release marks a continuation of their brutal legacy. The announcement comes with the release of the first single, “For Gore and Country,” a relentless track that encapsulates the band’s signature sound while hinting at a heightened intensity.

Formed in 1989 in Forshaga, Sweden, Vomitory quickly established itself as a force within the burgeoning death metal landscape. The band released eight albums between 1996 and 2011, solidifying their reputation for uncompromising brutality and technical proficiency. A hiatus followed in 2013, but the band’s enduring appeal led to a reunion in 2019 for their 30th-anniversary celebration. Their 2023 comeback album, All Heads Are Gonna Roll, proved they hadn’t lost their edge, and now, In Death Throes promises to build on that momentum. According to the band’s drummer, Tobias Gustafsson, the new album represents a deliberate escalation of their established sound.

A Return to Form, With Added Intensity

In Death Throes picks up where All Heads Are Gonna Roll left off, but we’ve turned the intensity up a notch,” Gustafsson explained. The addition of new guitarist Christian Fredriksson has played a key role in this evolution. Fredriksson contributed to four tracks on the album, bringing a fresh perspective while remaining true to the band’s core aesthetic. This blend of familiar elements and new energy is a defining characteristic of In Death Throes.

The recording process was meticulously handled across multiple studios in late 2025. Drums and vocals were laid down at Leon Music Studios in Karlstad, Sweden, with producer Rikard Löfgren, who has a proven track record with extreme metal acts, having previously worked on albums by Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize, Carnage Euphoria, and Opus Mortis VIII. Guitars and bass were tracked at Goff Studios, also in Karlstad, with Fredriksson taking the engineering reins. The final mix and mastering were entrusted to Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studios in Uppsala, Sweden, known for his perform with Paradise Lost, Bloodbath, and Lik, ensuring a crushing yet dynamic sound.

Visualizing the Brutality

The album’s artwork, like its sonic counterpart, aims to be both ferocious and visually striking. As with All Heads Are Gonna Roll, the artwork was created by Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design, whose portfolio includes work for Evergrey, Suffocation, and The Crown. Seiya Ogino of Ogino Design handled the layout, completing the album’s aesthetic presentation.

The first taste of In Death Throes comes in the form of the single “For Gore and Country.” Gustafsson describes the track as “relentlessly” charging forward, driven by lyrics depicting “rotting hordes.” He notes the song moves between classic Vomitory grind and headbanging sections, ultimately delivering a high-energy experience.

Touring with Titans

Vomitory will be supporting the release of In Death Throes with an extensive European tour alongside Hypocrisy, Abbath, and Vreid. The tour kicks off April 2nd in Berlin, Germany, and runs through May 2nd in London, UK. Notably, Abbath will not be appearing at the Manchester and London shows.

The current lineup of Vomitory consists of Erik Rundqvist on vocals and bass, Urban Gustafsson on guitar, Christian Fredriksson on lead guitar, and Tobias Gustafsson on drums. The band’s enduring appeal lies in its commitment to delivering uncompromising death metal, and In Death Throes appears poised to continue that tradition.

In Death Throes will be available on CD, digital formats, and LP, with a variety of limited-edition vinyl variants available, including 180g black, Dark Rose Marbled, Desert Sunset (Coral Metallic Marbled – limited to 300 copies), Green Black Splatter (Exclusive Band/Tour Edition – limited to 300 copies), Neon Orange Black Dust (limited to 200 copies), and Silver Black Dust (Sound Pollution Exclusive – limited to 200 copies).
