‌What is the secret of the success of Vosges sweets? With 260,000 visitors last year, the Hautes-Vosges confectionery in Plainfaing and the Bressaude confectionery in La Bresse (185,000 visitors) are the two most visited agri-food companies in France according to the ranking established by Entreprise et Découverte, the national company visit association. That of the Hautes-Vosges even comes third in all categories in a list dominated by EDF.

“Originally, these visits were intended for skeptics who did not imagine that the production was totally local”, smiles Mathilde Méténier, marketing manager of the Confiserie des Hautes-Vosges. “Afterwards, word of mouth worked. The number of visits thus increased from 30,000 in 1988, two years after the creation of the company, to 130,000 in 1998, then 240,000 in 2018…”

Handcrafted candy pastes

Curiosity for the manual manufacture of candy pastes up to packaging ensures popular success, also driven by free visits. “Thirty minutes of free commented visit, you will not find that everywhere”, underlines Denis Sontot, one of the managers of the Bressaude confectionery. “People today need to visualize craftsmanship. »

The quality of production (up to 1.2 tons produced per day in Plainfaing) in the two Vosges companies attracts a local public but also a clientele from neighboring countries. “Consumers want transparency. Today, know-how tourism is popular,” concludes Mathilde Méténier at the confectionery in the Hautes-Vosges, where the entire production is sold directly.
