Vox is clear about it in the Murcia region: “Genoa has decided that in Murcia you have to go to elections.” This has been pronounced José Ángel Antelo, regional leader of Vox in this autonomous community, after the PP has left the ultras without a single position on the Regional Assembly Table, constituted this Wednesday. The PP has not made concessions and has not given it any position in this body, in which Vox aspired to remain with the presidency, which has finally gone to the popular Visitación Martínez. The PP will also occupy the first vice-presidency and secretary, and the PSOE, the other two positions in contention: the second vice-presidency and secretary. Pure and hard arithmetic has been imposed in the distribution, a far cry from what happened in 2019, when the PP voted in favor of the Ciudadanos candidate and gave him the presidency of the Chamber in exchange for subsequent support for the investiture of Fernando López Miras as regional president. The PP warns that that situation has nothing to do with the current one. So, the popular ones only had 16 of the 45 seats and they had lost the elections. Now, with 21 deputies, they are two short of achieving an absolute majority. “We do not need the votes of another party, just that there is no blockade,” stressed Joaquín Segado, who was campaign manager for the Murcian PP and, since this Wednesday, is its spokesman in the regional Parliament. And Vox has already warned the popular that they will not have their vote without compensation. The alternative, they say, is to repeat the elections in Murcia.

Vox’s position is clear: “It has offered us nothing and has asked us for everything in exchange for absolutely nothing. Today they have decided to go to elections ”, Antelo insisted on his intervention. And that is what will happen if the ultra party votes against the investiture of López Miras. According to the regulations of the Regional Assembly, to be appointed president, the candidate needs to obtain the absolute majority of the Chamber in the first vote, or more yes than no in the second. López Miras would have the yes of the 21 representatives of him, and the no of the 13 of the PSOE, the 2 of Podemos and the 9 of Vox, 24 in total.

“We are perplexed that Miras has vetoed us at the Table, we did not expect it,” Antelo has acknowledged, who considers that the decision comes directly from Madrid, unlike what happened in the Valencian Community, where the popular ones have agreed on a government coalition with the far-right party.

Murcian PP sources emphasize that the situation in both autonomous communities cannot be extrapolated, since in the Region of Murcia the PP has achieved 43% of the votes, the third best result of the party at the national level.

The Vox leader insists that they continue “with their hands outstretched to agree”, but qualifies: “They want us to give away the votes and it is not possible, we cannot disrespect the voters.” He has also ensured that the negotiations at the municipal level continue in municipalities such as Molina de Segura, the fourth city of the autonomous community, where the PSOE won the elections, but the PP can govern in coalition with Vox, an agreement that, according to The ultra match is already closed even though it has not been officially announced.

For the moment, the popular ones do not pronounce on this possible electoral repetition and insist on the legitimacy that their electoral results have given them to govern alone.
