CPM’s struggling youth VS Achuthanandan is entering the age of 100. Today is the 99th birthday of a leader who is very dear to Malayalis. VS is celebrating his birthday this time only with his family as he has issues with mild paralysis and strict restrictions from health experts. It has been 3 years since VS completely withdrew from public life and political activities due to health problems. He is currently living a leisurely life in Thiruvananthapuram at his son VA Arun Kumar’s Bartonhill residence.
Considering his health problems, there will be no major birthday celebrations this time. VS Achuthanandan is currently facing many health problems due to a stroke. During the previous LDF government, VS Achuthanandan served as the Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission. But later he resigned from this post.

His last official position was that of the Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission. Even till the age of 90, he used to do yoga and walk for five hours every day. This was the secret of his health. But this also had to be stopped when he fell ill. His doctors have imposed a strict ban on visitors to avoid infection.
VS is now with his wife Vasumathi, son, daughter, sons-in-law and grandchildren. He last participated in a public event in 2019. VS had participated in the Punnapra Vayalar Martyrdom Day celebrations that day, but after that his health condition worsened when he returned to Thiruvananthapuram. Then he was admitted to the hospital. After that he is on complete rest.
