Vučić Warns New Leadership That Policy Shifts May Risk Investment

Following parliamentary elections on October 25, 2026, former opposition leader Aleksandar Vučić criticized the economic and political platform of the winning Studentska lista, warning that planned policy changes could severely impact foreign investment and urging supporters to brace for political shifts.

In a series of media appearances beginning late October, Vučić addressed the aftermath of the vote, in which his electoral list secured 104 seats in parliament. Speaking from party headquarters and through broadcast interviews on outlets such as Informer TV and Niš TV, he asserted that the incoming leadership group lacks administrative experience and relies on approaches he described as unrealistic. He specifically criticized proposals to alter existing economic subsidies for foreign investors and the proposed introduction of a four-day workweek, which he called scandalous.

Ending State Support Threatens Industrial Operations

Vučić cautioned that ending state support for foreign capital would jeopardize ongoing industrial operations.

Znate li šta to znači? According to Novosti, he specifically noted that firms such as Kromberg Schubert in Kruševac employ 4,000 people. He maintained that economic continuity rather than a sharp pivot is required to sustain national development, noting that his administration had previously provided significant support to small and medium-sized enterprises and women entrepreneurs.

Political Opponents Target Cable Channel TV Informer

The political transition has also centered on disputes involving domestic broadcasters. Vučić stated that political opponents aim to shutter the cable channel TV Informer within seven to eight days. He contended that regulatory measures targeting the station are driven by political pressure rather than legal infractions, and warned that Telekom would have to disconnect the station within 48 hours.

During the broadcasts, Vučić used direct phrasing regarding the administrative pressure facing media outlets:

So let’s put things black on white: they want to do it ostensibly wrapped in the form of certain institutions, even before formally taking over power, but to them it’s all the same, because everything is behind the curtain. Plenums decide, some Comintern decides, and that must be obeyed.

He added that public broadcasters and independent networks have experienced severe staff alterations following the vote, pointing to leadership departures at RTS and other outlets, while also criticizing RTS for inviting individuals on international red notices.

Political Bloc Adopts Srbija Protiv Terora Designation

Looking toward the organization of the new legislature, Vučić announced that his political bloc will operate under the designation Srbija protiv terora. With 104 deputies in the assembly, he argued that the party maintains sufficient legislative scale to challenge governance decisions, while noting he had held phone conversations with international figures including Viktor Orbán, Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni, and António Costa.

Representatives of Studentska lista, including student Filip Ubović, Svetlana Stanarević, and Jovan Vujačić, gathered publicly in Belgrade’s Pionirski park to reiterate that transition processes must adhere strictly to established legal frameworks. Student organizers emphasized that institutional reforms, alongside demands for the immediate resignations of the police director, the head of Telekom, and specific prosecutors, will proceed immediately upon the formal assumption of office.

In his various public addresses following the election outcome, Vučić repeatedly emphasized the gravity of the current situation. He spoke with Bojan Avramović on Niš TV regarding the climate of political pressure and discussed the broader national context with interviewers at Informer TV. Throughout these appearances, he maintained that his political movement engaged in governance with dignity and stated that he reached out to central figures like Jorgovanka Tabaković regarding recent banking sector developments. Vučić also alleged that foreign intelligence actors, specifically pointing to individuals monitoring Croatian services like Aleksandar Maršavelski, had interfered in domestic political affairs.

Reflecting on the emotional and physical toll of the campaign, Vučić remarked on the intense nature of the recent political confrontations, noting that he had observed various rallies and protests firsthand. He expressed concern over what he termed revolutionary terror and pointed to incidents affecting party offices, including local premises in Sremska Mitrovica. Addressing the public from party spaces where he prepared a simple sandwich for the cameras, Vučić sought to project resilience and solidarity with his supporters as they prepare for a prolonged period in parliamentary opposition.
