Vueling has decided to abide by the sanction proposal filed by the Labor Inspection of the Catalan Generalitat and acknowledges that it acted in a sexist by demanding heels between 5 and 8 centimeters, makeup and mascara from their hostesses. A dress code that was in force until last year and that the airline has decided to withdraw and reformulate to make it more “inclusive”. Currently, the obligations related to makeup have already been eliminated and the airline is agreeing with the union representatives on issues related to footwear, according to the company.

The company has chosen not to appeal the fine of 30.000 euros, advanced by EL PERIÓDICO, from the Prensa Ibérica group, and in the coming days it will pay the amount to the Catalan administration, as explained to this medium from Vueling. The recognition of the offense and its prompt payment imply a discount of 40% in the amount of the sanction.

Vueling was subject to a pioneering inspection and subsequent fine in terms of equality in airlines, where the imposition of differentiated and more demanding dress codes for women has until now been a widespread practice.

cabin crew union Easel filed a complaint and the Catalan “labor police” ended up applying the same criteria as in other similar actions. Like those made against railway for imposing heels and skirts on the flight attendants Ave. Fine that Ferrovial appealed and raised to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), which last September rejected his appeal and forced him to pay 25,000 euros. The same amount as, for demanding similar clothing, for which she was fined in 2018 the company Schweppeswho managed the hostess service Godó Trophy.

The low-cost airline was censured by the Inspection, since the agents understood that Vueling could have achieved a corporate image “in a less burdensome and more balanced way, without affecting the fundamental rights” of the workers.

Captcha Renewal

According to the company, there is currently no gender distinction or any obligation in the image code required of cabin crew in relation to the make-up. And about the obligation to heelsmanagement has made four different types of shoes available to cabin crew, one of them with a flat sole.

“Vueling decided not to present allegations in relation to the open diligence, which derives from a complaint from April 2022, and to focus on working internally to make its style guide inclusive and adapt to current needs, a process in which the company is immersed”, according to the corporation.

The company has decided not to continue with the legal process and to focus on a “thorough review of the style guide” for “an inclusive image”. Thus, it recognizes a very serious infringement in terms of equality and declines to appeal the proposed sanction to the courts, which would have allowed it to delay the payment until a final judgment is reached. In the event that this had been favorable to the company, the proposed fine would have declined and the amount of the fine would have been archived.
