The car manufacturer’s crisis continues: Volkswagen has now terminated a number of collective agreements.
The struggling car manufacturer Volkswagen has terminated a number of collective agreements, including the so-called future collective agreement on job security, which excludes redundancies for operational reasons until 2029. The company sees itself forced to do so due to the current economic challenges, said Chief Human Resources Officer Gunnar Kilian on Tuesday. Job security had been continuously enshrined since 1994.
IG Metall also announced on Tuesday that the Volkswagen board had terminated “a whole range of collective agreements”. A spokesman for the union confirmed that this also included the job security agreement that was supposed to run until 2029.
At the same time, IG Metall invited VW works council chairwoman Daniela Cavallo and IG Metall district manager Thorsten Gröger to make statements in the afternoon. Volkswagen had announced drastic cost-cutting measures and had not ruled out the closure of plants in Germany.
