While chaos seems to reign in Russia following the Wagner group’s offensive and its volte-face, the former specialist in military strategies Simon Leduc believes that this rebellion is in fact a staging benefiting the Russian president Vladimir Poutine.

“The hypothesis that seems most plausible to me is that it was arranged with the views guy,” said Mr. Leduc in an interview with LCN.
The latter underlined the fact that the forces of the Wagner group did not benefit from any resistance during their offensive in the south-west of Russia.
Simon Leduc adds that the Wagner group is part of the GRU, Russian military intelligence within which Vladimir Putin exercises very tight control.
According to the former military intelligence officer, the offensive led by the Wagner group could be the result of negotiations within the Russian Ministry of Defense where there is a lot of dissension regarding the doctrine and strategy of Generals Vitali Guerassimov and Sergei Shoigu.
Yevgeny Prigojine’s attempted rebellion could therefore serve Putin’s interests by driving out these two members of the Russian general staff. This would therefore not be a free electron, believes Simon Leduc.
“I feel like Prigojine is kind of like a character in wrestling, Hulk Hogan or someone like that, putting on a show; a Russian doll. And there you remove the Russian doll and behind, there is another Russian doll and another element, ”he illustrates.
The military intelligence expert also notes that the overthrow attempt orchestrated by the Wagner group had the effect of creating a rallying effect behind the Russian president.
“Putin has the big game. All of civil society has lined up behind him. The people who criticized him suddenly said: ”we have to be behind Putin for this element”, mentions Mr. Leduc.
