Medical industry: “It will only end when the resident returns”
The resident’s representative criticized the representative of the medical association.

According to the political and medical circles on the 1st, Representative Han suddenly canceled his scheduled schedule on the 30th of last month and met with medical association officials. An official from the People Power Party explained, “This is because ultimately, the key is whether the Korean Medical Association takes action.”
On the same day, Minister Cho apologized for the first time as a government official, saying, “I feel very regretful and sorry when I think of the residents,” and requested participation in the ruling and opposition party council and the doctor supply and demand estimation committee (estimate committee). The Korean Medical Association also responded, “Minister Cho’s remarks are a positive change.” Jia Han, senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, told reporters on the 1st, “(A member of the medical community) met with Representative Han the day before and said he would proactively consider (participating in the consultative body) and we are waiting for a response.”
However, the Korean Medical Association is still lukewarm about participation in the consultative body and estimation committee. As a condition for participation in the estimation committee, the Korean Medical Association requires ‘majority participation of doctors in a decision-making body rather than an advisory body.’ Anna Choi, spokesperson for the Korean Medical Association, said, “There has been no change in our policy that in order to participate in the council, we must be able to discuss increasing the number of students for the 2025 school year.”
In the medical community, there are many disagreements about the People Power Party’s view that participation in the medical association is key. An official from the medical community said, “The medical vacuum situation will end only when the resident returns. I heard that a representative met with an official from the medical association, but currently, the medical association cannot move the resident.” Park Dan, the emergency response committee chairman of the Korean Medical Residents Association (Daejeon Medical Association), a representative of the medical residents, also said on his Facebook page on the 1st, “Chairman Lim Hyun-taek of the Korean Medical Association does not represent the positions of resigning residents and medical students. “Chairman Lim, don’t talk about anything,” he harshly criticized. Chairman Park also said, “There is no change in the position of canceling the number of medical school seats for the 2025 school year. “If the current policy is enforced, normal medical education will be impossible,” he said.
Currently, the only organizations in the medical community that have expressed their intention to participate in consultative bodies and estimation committees are user groups such as the Korean Hospital Association. However, there are also observations that it will be more difficult for doctors’ groups to participate if user groups participate. Kang Hee-kyung, a professor at Seoul National University’s medical school and hospital and chair of the emergency response committee, said, “From the perspective of employer groups, they want to produce a lot of doctors because they want cheap labor,” and added, “When estimating the supply and demand of doctors, it is more appropriate to involve actual clinicians or academic societies.” “He said.
