In the recent situation in the country, many borrowers and credit card customers could not pay their dues to the bank on time. Besides, many depositors could not deposit installments of various savings schemes including Deposit Pension Scheme (DPS) on time. These customers will not have to pay penalty or late fee or additional interest on bank loan-credit card dues.

On Wednesday (July 24) an instruction in this regard has been issued by the Banking Regulations and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank.

According to the directive, in the recent situation in the country, many borrowers and credit card customers have not been able to pay their dues to the bank on time. Besides, many depositors could not deposit installments of various savings schemes including Deposit Pension Scheme (DPS) on time. In such a situation, the following instructions should be followed for payment of loan dues due from July 18 to July 25, credit card bills and installments of various savings schemes including DPS-

– Collection or imposition of any interest, interest and penalty interest, additional interest, excess profit, late fee, penalty (by whatever name) on such outstanding amount if the loan and credit card dues are paid by 31st July can’t be done

-If the installments of various savings schemes including DPS are paid by the customer by 31st July, no late fee or penalty can be collected or levied on the same. Besides, the inability of the customer to pay the installments of any savings scheme within the specified period shall not be discontinued or canceled and no interest or profit shall be paid less than the pre-announced rate.

– Interest or profit and penalty on loan or credit card already mentioned Interest or late fee and any kind of late fee or penalty collected or imposed on various savings schemes including DPS shall be refunded or adjusted. This directive will be effective immediately.

The Central Bank has issued this directive under the powers given in Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991.
