Walt is expanding its operations: will launch the grocery delivery venture in Israel

by time news

Walt is expanding its operations, and intends to establish “Dark Stores” in Israel, from which it will supply grocery products for fast deliveries under the “Walt Market” brand. The company already operates the format through three stores operating in Finland and recently submitted an application to the competition authority to set up a venture of similar stores in the country from which it will make deliveries. In the first phase, the activity will be carried out from Tel Aviv only.

These stores serve as warehouses for shipments, as already operated by Yango Dali which has been offering fast deliveries of grocery products since November 2020 in a model that is older than its parent company, Yandex, which operates in Russia. Unlike Yandex, which also operates in the field of shipments (as a competitor of Walt), in Israel Yagno Dali does not intend to enter this field in light of the dominance of Walt and Let Bite in the industry.

In July, it was reported in Globes that another player is considering entering the Israeli market, with an emphasis on fast deliveries of grocery products – a gorillas company that operates in the format of the dark and dominant stores in Europe, with an emphasis on deliveries within a ten-minute period.

Walt conquered the Israeli market it entered in 2018 through food deliveries from restaurants. Since then, its activity has grown every year as it has expanded food deliveries from restaurants not only geographically but also to other retail areas including pharma products, deli products, books, toys and more. In November, the shipping company benefited from the increase in the shopping rate following the discount promotions, so that the retail sales rate occupies a significant volume from Walt’s operations. Today, Walt’s app has about 3,000 businesses. The company employs 700 people in Israel and has about 10,000 couriers with it.

It is estimated that in the coming months Walt will launch its grocery delivery service, an area that is not entirely foreign to it – the company already offers deliveries from Super Yoda branches in Tel Aviv. However, these shipments do not operate in the fast mechanism that Walt is interested in getting into and that are made possible thanks to activity through the “dark stores”. The retail chains operate in the field of grocery deliveries, headed by Shufersal and Quick’s delivery system.
