The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, confirmed this Monday that a group of Spaniards is leaving Gaza to be evacuated to Egypt, waiting for the process to be completed today. The first group of national doubles is made up of around 40 people, of which half, a total of 22, are minors. This step comes after contacts in recent days between Albares and his counterparts from Egypt and Israel, explained the minister himself, who indicated that “everything indicates” that the evacuation could take place today. “At the moment everything is going well and we hope it ends equally well,” he added. Once on Egyptian soil, it is expected that they can be transported by Ministry of Defense planes to Spain, as indicated by the head of this department, Margarita Robles. According to Government calculations, between 140 and 170 Spaniards will be able to leave the Gaza Strip through the Rafá crossing, which connects the Palestinian enclave with Egypt.
