Lhe war in Ukraine knows no truce this Christmas season. The Ukrainian Air Force announced on social networks that “the enemy is attacking [le pays] on several fronts, with cruise missiles fired from planes and ships”, this Thursday morning, December 29. Several localities would be affected, including the capital, kyiv, and Lviv, where 90% of the city would be without electricity. The mayor, Andriï Sadovy, denounces Russian bombardments on energy infrastructures. “Trams and trolleybuses no longer run in the city, there could be water cuts,” he said on the social network Telegram.

“More than 120 missiles were launched to destroy critical civilian infrastructure and kill civilians en masse,” Ukrainian presidential adviser Mikhailo Podoliak tweeted. At least three people were injured in kyiv, including a 14-year-old girl, Mayor Vitali Klitchko said. “All are hospitalized,” he wrote on Telegram.

The Kremlin had warned that there would be no New Year truce on the ground in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin justifies his military offensive against Ukraine, which has lasted for more than ten months, at the cost of heavy losses, by assuring that the West was using Ukraine as a bridgehead to threaten Russia.
