A skyscraper in Russia’s capital Moscow has again been attacked by a drone in a series of incidents that have put the city on high alert. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that several unmanned devices invaded the city overnight, but many of them were shot down by security forces.

Russia’s defense ministry has placed responsibility for the latest attacks on Ukraine. The attacked skyscraper is the home of Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development, and the drone managed to reach the 21st floor, where this entity is located. Pictures of the incident show the building’s glass facade damaged and charred, with around a dozen glass panels missing.

Interestingly, this same building had already been attacked two days ago in a similar incident. Although the reason why it was hit twice in a row is still unclear, the Russian military claimed that the drones that tried to attack the skyscraper were intercepted before causing any further damage.

The attacks are not limited to Moscow, as Russia also claims to have destroyed three Ukrainian drones that were trying to attack two Russian ships in the Black Sea.

The situation is compounded by remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warning that war would return to Russia, which was followed by a Kremlin-ordered missile barrage that killed six people, including a 10-year-old boy.

Zelensky’s adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, insisted that Russia will face “more unidentified drones”, describing the city of Moscow as “quickly getting used to full-blown warfare”.

These drone attacks on the Russian capital, regardless of their origin, show Moscow’s vulnerability amid the conflict with Ukraine, which has already lasted for more than 18 months. Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine continues with a deadly combination of Russian and Iranian drones, missiles and glide bombs.

The situation becomes increasingly tense, and uncertainty and fear take over the city. The Russians are faced with the reality that President Putin’s war is getting results completely opposite to those intended.
