Recommendations of the Ministry of Health for travelers to Ukraine – including humanitarian missions

On 24.02.2022 a war broke out in Ukraine. In light of the situation, there is an increased risk of contracting polio, coronavirus and measles. The Ministry of Health recommends that all travelers to Ukraine and travelers for the purpose of humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine in neighboring countries – be vaccinated with routine vaccines.

Vaccination against polio, corona and measles should be ascertained as follows:

  • Polio virus vaccine – Due to the spread of type 2 polio virus from a modified vaccine source – circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2), it is recommended to be vaccinated against polio. Adults who received a full series of childhood vaccines and one booster dose over the age of 18 are considered vaccinated.
  • Corona virus – it is recommended to be vaccinated according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
  • Measles – It is recommended for anyone born from 1957 onwards, and has not had measles in the past, to be vaccinated with two doses of measles vaccine at intervals of at least four weeks. For those who are not vaccinated, at least one dose of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is recommended before traveling.
