Several Ukrainian military personnel gave a gloomy assessment of the situation at the front. Senior officers who served under the ousted commander-in-chief, General Valery Zaluzhny, told Politico that there was a high risk that front lines could collapse wherever Russia chose to focus its offensive. They warned that Russia is now stockpiling resources and should be ready to launch a “major offensive” around August, or possibly earlier.

Russian forces are likely to be able to “penetrate the front line and destroy it in some parts,” they said. The officers, speaking on condition of anonymity, were highly critical of the speed and extent of Western aid – but also acknowledged that Ukraine had made mistakes on the battlefield.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says that Russia is constantly increasing its military capabilities, and as a result, Ukraine’s military needs must be met immediately. While NATO ministers are considering the proposal to establish a five-year 100 billion euro fund, Mr. Stoltenberg said on Wednesday that the members of the alliance must ensure the long-term supply of weapons to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is preparing a third strike on the Kerch Strait bridge connecting Russia with temporarily occupied Crimea, the British newspaper “The Guardian” reports, citing high-ranking HUR officials.

According to them, HUR is planning a third attempt to blow up the bridge after two previous attempts and says its destruction is “imminent”.
