Subsequently, President Novák met with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by the Undersecretary for Relations with States, Msgr. Mirosław Wachowski.
According to informed the Holy Seeduring “the cordial meeting at the Secretary of State” they discussed “some issues of common interest, such as the family and Christian values.”
Meanwhile, “during the course of the conversation, the war in Ukraine was deepened, making special reference to the humanitarian situation, as well as efforts to end the conflict. Finally, the issue of religious freedom and the situation of persecuted Christians in the world”, added the Vatican note.
Novák arrived at the Vatican after visiting kyiv and participating, together with the presidents of several European countries, including those of Portugal and Lithuania, in the Annual Summit on Crimea. This international meeting aims to discuss the return of this territory to Ukraine. Hungary supports the Ukrainian efforts to recover the peninsula, occupied by Russia since 2014.
