Ukraine expects an escalation of attacks from Russia after the end of the summer. The spokesman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuri Ignat, has launched an appeal to the international community not to go back on its commitment to arm and equip the Ukrainian forces in view of what is predictably likely to happen. “In fact, a worsening in the autumn is possible,” said Ignat, according to whom Moscow will compensate for the lack of missiles with drones. “There are fewer missiles and more drones,” he told Ukrainian television, according to Ukrinform. “Drones are a cheaper type of munition. Russia is building this type of arsenal and Ukraine needs to equip itself with the means to counter it.”

“As in August 2008, our enemies will be crushed and Russia will achieve peace on its own terms,” Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Telegram.
“The United States and its vassals then clearly did not have enough experience”, continued Medvedev who, then returning to the war in Ukraine and referring to Western countries, added: “today they are again waging a criminal war, trying to erase the Russia from the face of the earth. The whole NATO system is practically openly fighting against us. We have enough forces to solve all the tasks of the special military operation”.
THE ATTACKS ON THE BLACK SEA
Kiev will respond to Russia in the Black Sea to ensure the ability to import and export grain and other products. This was stated by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video posted on the presidency website. “If Russia continues to dominate the Black Sea, outside its territory, blocking us or shooting again, launching missiles on our ports, Ukraine will do the same. This is a just defense of our possibilities, of any corridor. We don’t have that many ships. But they will have to clearly understand that by the end of the war they will have zero ships, zero.”
THE BALANCE OF THE CONFLICT
The approaching autumn, with worsening weather and terrain conditions, narrows the window within which Kiev’s forces can hope for progress. “They have yet to see if in the next two weeks there is the possibility of achieving some progress. But for them, real progress is changing the balance of the conflict. I think it is extremely unlikely,” a senior Western diplomat told CNN. “Our briefings are disappointing. They remind us of the challenges they face. This is the most difficult time of the war,” says Mike Quigley, a US Democrat congressman who just returned from a meeting in Europe with US commanders tasked with training Ukrainian forces. The main problem is the different levels of the Russian defensive lines with minefields and trenches. “The Russians have several lines of defense and (Ukrainian forces) have not yet overcome the first one,” notes a Western diplomat. “We all recognize, even the Ukrainians, that it is more difficult, slower than we would like, but we continue to believe that there is time and space to make progress”, notes a senior American official instead.
