Bulkhead’s all-out warfare multiplayer shooter Wardogs has surpassed one million copies sold and over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam during its early access debut on September 10, catching developers by surprise.
The large-scale tactical first-person shooter made its debut on PC, instantly lighting up platform charts and overwhelming server capacity. Players logging in during the opening hours frequently encountered server queues as the player count surged past 300,000 concurrent users on SteamDB according to IGN reporting.
The explosive commercial milestone follows a rapid buildup in player interest. The title garnered one million wishlists ahead of its September release.
Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer Responds to Million-Copy Milestone
Unlike many modern releases relying on blind pre-launch hype, the development team took an unusually transparent approach to managing expectations. The studio published promotional material highlighting reasons why players might choose not to buy the game, attempting to ensure the audience understood what the tactical military sandbox was and what it was not.
To cross a million copies sold as we launch into early access is mental,
said Joe Brammer, CEO at Bulkhead. “We’ve spent the last few months showing people exactly what Wardogs is, what it isn’t, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. We didn’t want people buying into blind hype. So seeing more than one million people choose to jump in and play the game at early access launch means a huge amount to all of us. But this is still early access. We’ve got things to fix, things we want to improve and a lot more we want to build. The best thing players can do now is keep playing, keep telling us what they think and keep giving us those ridiculous Wardogs moments.”

Brammer emphasized that the team spent the prior months showing players exactly what the project entailed. He noted that seeing over one million people choose to dive in at early access launch meant a tremendous amount to the crew, while acknowledging that the current build represents only the first milestone in the journey to 1.0 as reported by IGN.
Tactical Gameplay and Cloud Streaming Integration
The shooter drops up to 100 players across three teams into randomized zones within a sprawling military sandbox, supporting 50v50 conflicts where tactical gunplay, combined-arms combat, building and destruction dictate the flow of battle according to NVIDIA Blog.

The game’s economy is tied directly to performance on the battlefield. Every team-play action earns cash, providing diverse ways to invest in gear and vehicles that can shift momentum. The developer designed the experience to bridge the gap between hard-core military simulators like Arma and casual shooters like Battlefield.
Alongside its standalone PC launch, the title dropped directly onto cloud platforms on launch day. NVIDIA GeForce NOW added the shooter to its library, allowing Ultimate tier members to stream the firefights with GeForce RTX 5080-class performance across supported devices without requiring massive local storage downloads.
Console Roadmaps and What Comes Next
While the game is currently available exclusively on PC, Bulkhead confirmed a 2028 target release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles, though specific calendar dates remain unannounced.

The studio cautioned that player counts may experience dips over time as initial hype stabilizes and the team takes a deliberate approach to rolling out new content. Developers have urged the community to continue providing feedback as the game iterates through its early access lifecycle.
