400m hurdles, 1,500m, triple jump and pole vault will be the expected highlights of the Diamond League meeting in Oslo on Thursday evening.

The return of local hero Karsten Warholm, his compatriot Jakob Ingebrigtsen favorite in a royal 1,500m, or even world record holder Yulimar Rojas in the triple jump are the expected highlights of the Diamond League meeting in Oslo on Thursday evening.

Warholm revient

As usual, the Norwegian has planned a late summer comeback, with a 400m hurdles at home, a few months after a successful indoor season (European champion in the 400m in Istanbul in March).

The Olympic champion and world record holder in the 400m hurdles (with the fantastic time of 45”94 in Tokyo in 2021) hopes to erase his past season in 2023, marred by a hamstring injury. Set back at the Eugene Worlds (7th), he had still won the European title in August in Munich but had experienced a first brake after his constant progress of the previous five years.

Ingebrigtsen to prove again

Another local star, Jakob Ingebrigtsen (22), started his summer perfectly by beating the competition in Rabat at the end of May over 1,500m, before capturing the best performance of all time over 2 miles (about 3.2 km ) last week in Paris (7’54”10).

In Oslo, the Olympic champion in the 1,500m faces a very strong opposition on his favorite distance with in particular the Spaniard Mohamed Katir, the Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot and the American Yared Nuguse. What to prove once again that he is the boss of the middle distance.

Red untouchable?

The Venezuelan, Olympic champion and world record holder in the triple jump, reappeared in competition on Sunday in Madrid, almost nine months after her last competition.

Already in good shape (14.96 m, best world performance of the year), she is making her international comeback in the Norwegian capital before aiming for a fourth consecutive title of world champion in Budapest (August 19-27).

Duplantis on the rise

The Swedish Olympic champion is obviously the huge favorite in the pole vault, having lost only once in 24 competitions (excluding qualifications) since the start of 2022.

It is currently gaining momentum (5.91 m in Los Angeles at the end of May, 6.11 m in Hengelo at the start of June). Until dreaming of a new world record, after having erased 6.22 m in February in Clermont-Ferrand, while the weather forecast looks perfect in Oslo (around 28 degrees, light wind)?
