Their plan is to move away from “single match” games.

After the success of Hogwarts Legacy and the disappointment of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, everything seemed to indicate that Warner Bros. Games would try to follow in the footsteps of its title based on the world of Harry Potter. Well, against all odds, it seems not, since the company wants to continue focusing on games as a service.

The head of Warner Bros Discovery’s video game division, JB Perrette, spoke about the path ahead for WB Games and the direction it wants to take. In essence, The team is thinking about ways to create games like Hogwarts Legacy that are continuous over time and not “one-shot”.

“Instead of releasing a single-game game, how do we develop a game around, say, Hogwarts Legacy or the Harry Potter universe, that is an ongoing service where people can live, work, build and play?” play in that world without a marked ending?” Perrette said.

The head of Warner Bros. stated that AAA games are a “volatile” market at the moment, which is also being reflected in the number of layoffs in many studios. Even so, it is difficult to understand that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League be a better model for the future than games like Hogwarts Legacy, which ended up being one of the best sellers of 2023.

Just a couple of weeks ago, WB admitted that Kill The Justice League had fallen “below expectations” in the first quarterafter almost nine years of development.
