Warner Bros. Studio announced the release of a new Lord of the Rings film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The director of this project will be British actor, film director and BAFTA award winner Andy Serkis.
Variety reports this.
Scheduled for release in 2026, the film will be the first installment in the new Lord of the Rings film series. Based on the title, it is clear that it will be focused on Gollum, whose role will be played by Serkis himself. It was he who brought this evil character to life on the screen, giving him his own voice and movements.
Peter Jackson, director of the original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and his partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, will produce the film and “be involved in every aspect of the film,” the Warner Bros. CEO said. Discovery David Zaslav on a teleconference.
Currently, work is actively underway on the script for the film, which is being developed by Walsh, Boyens, Phoebe Gittins and Artie Papageorgiou.
In February 2023, Warner Bros. first announced that Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, the studio’s new executives, had brokered a deal to make “multiple” films based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The projects will be implemented under the auspices of the New Line Cinema label, part of the World Bank. Freemode, a division of Embracer Group, has secured a deal to adapt books including The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit from Middle-earth Enterprises.
It should be noted that the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, created by Jackson, earned nearly $3 billion worldwide. The films starred such stars as Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin and Cate Blanchett. This project was nominated for 30 Oscars and won 17 awards, including Best Picture in 2003 – The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
“Cursor” also reported that the star actor from “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” had died.
