David Warner is not playing for Australia in Tests and ODIs. The left-handed batsman has retired from both formats. Now playing only T20. He also indicated his departure from this format. He said that he will end his twenty-over career with the next T20 World Cup.
Australia lost by 37 runs in the third and final T20 of the series against the West Indies in Perth on Tuesday (February 13). Warner, who left the Test and ODI, played an innings of 81 runs in this match. He was also the man of the match in Australia’s 2-1 win in the series.
At the prize distribution ceremony after the match, Aussie legend Adam Gilchrist asked Warner whether he would retire after the T20 World Cup. The left-handed opener replied, ‘Yes, I am done there. Now is the time to match the youth. We have a lot of talented players.’
Gilchrist asked Warner directly to be a little more certain, ‘So is this the last time we’ve seen David Warner in an Australian jersey on Australian soil?’ Warner replied, ‘Yes, of course.’
Earlier, in January this year, Warner wore white with the Test series against Pakistan. He also announced his retirement from ODIs. However, he also informed that in the 2025 Champions Trophy, Australia ‘will be available if needed.’
Australia will fly to New Zealand after the series against the West Indies at home. After playing a three-match T20 series with the neighbors, Warner will participate in the T20 World Cup to be held in the United States and West Indies in June.
