According to the minister, the number of cyber attacks in Poland, a member of the European Union and NATO and a staunch supporter of neighboring Ukraine, has doubled over the past year since Russia attacked it in 2022.
“In recent days (…) a group of saboteurs with specific goals was dismantled in Poland,” K. Gawkowski told reporters, adding that its members were from Belarus and Russia. It sought to blackmail “individuals and institutions” and specifically targeted the Polish anti-doping agency Polada.
K. Gawkowski said that foreign special services sought access to “other Polish institutions at the local government level as well as state-owned enterprises related to the security sector” through Polada.
“The purpose of our adversaries’ activities to infiltrate, extort data and then blackmail has been blocked,” he said.
According to K. Gawkowski, during the first half of the year, more than 400 thousand were reported in Poland. cyber attacks, that is “100 percent increase per year”.
