Farewell to Giorgio Lopez: the actor and voice actor, the Italian voice of many Hollywood stars such as Danny DeVito and Dustin Hoffman, who died in Rome at the age of 74. Older brother of the actor Massimo and father of the voice actors Gabriele and Andrea, he was born in Naples on February 16, 1947.
The carreer
Graduated in Literature at the Sapienza University of Rome and graduated from the Silvio D’Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art, he started his career in the theater at the end of the 1960s. He then devoted himself mainly to dubbing: he lent his voice – in addition to the aforementioned DeVito and Hoffman – to John Cleese, John Hurt, Ian Holm, Bob Hoskins, Groucho Marx and Pat Morita, the famous Master Miyagi of the Karate Kid saga (put the wax, remove the wax). In July 2009 he won the Leggio d’oro award for the direction of the dubbing of the film Houdini – The Last Magician and in 2015 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Festival of Acting Voices.
