/ The United States of America decided, on Wednesday, to re-list the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) as a “global terrorist” organization, after they targeted ships in the Red Sea.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, “We announce the inclusion of the Ansar Allah group (Houthis) on the list of terrorist groups in a decision that will be implemented after 30 days.”

He added, “The Houthis launched unprecedented attacks against ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and against forces stationed in the region.”

For his part, the US National Security Advisor said, “Washington decided to re-list the Houthis in Yemen as a global terrorist organization.”

He added, “If the Houthis stop their attacks in the Red Sea, Washington will consider lifting this classification,” noting that “Washington wants this classification to force the Houthis to move away from Iran.”

The US National Security Advisor pointed out that “the designation will take effect within 30 days to give us time to reduce the effects of this decision on the Yemeni people.”

On February 16, 2021, the United States of America decided to remove the Ansar Allah Houthi group from the terrorist list.
