Today, Monday, at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli, the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, received the US Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, accompanied by the Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Brent.
The Presidential Council’s media office reported that the meeting discussed developments in the political situation and mechanisms for breaking the current stalemate and working to reach consensuses leading to holding elections, in addition to the importance of activating the work of the Supreme Finance Committee due to the inability to reach a unified, constitutional budget law, and the importance of the participation of all parties to cover all basic requirements and determine Spending priorities and addressing inflation.
In turn, Norland described the meeting as very good, noting that he discussed ways in which the United States can help the Libyans protect their sovereignty in the context of regional unrest, as well as restore resolve to the political process led by the United Nations, and enable the Libyan people to choose their leaders.
The American envoy added: “We reiterated the United States’ support for economic stability and national reconciliation in Libya.”
