Watch commercials, and watch TV too

by time news

Click.TV, a new television content streaming application, is available to viewers in Israel starting today. This is a fresh initiative by some private businessmen and investors, including some well-known names such as Guy Adrifounder of the urban supermarket chain AM:PM, and the television star Zvika Hadar.

The assumption behind the new television option is that most television viewers in Israel pay for content packages from local providers, but in practice watch free channels most of the time. Click.TV’s solution is a free platform for broadcasting content online, in the familiar VOD model and as linear channels with a fixed broadcast schedule, which in order to finance the costs, the viewers will require before viewing, and also during, watching advertisements.

The selection of content on Click.TV is still not very wide. At the moment, the application allows you to watch channel 11 here. In the coming months, the channels Keshet 12 and Reshet 13 are also expected to join the service, along with another 50 other channels from around the world. The company also claims that it has invested in producing original content, including hundreds of studio hours in a format that the company calls Vodcast – a kind of filmed podcast.

The selection of platforms for which Click.TV is available is also very limited at this stage, and amounts to smart TVs based on the Vidaa operating system – that is, certain models of Hisense and Toshiba. In the future, a launch is planned for additional platforms of smart TVs, as well as in applications for mobile devices.

Just to mention: Netflix itself is considering offering a discounted subscription where viewers will have to watch commercials during viewing to save money. Click.TV takes this idea to the extreme.
