The Republican candidate for governor of New York who is running against the current governor, Democrat Kathy Hochul, received a new tallit with a special case, with his Jewish name on it, from the leaders of the Hasidic communities in Williamsburg during a visit to Williamsburg. Zeldin received the gift outside the Vizhnitz Synagogue.

He gave an impassioned speech about the importance of voting for him for governor, in the November 8th election. This country, so that we can walk in our streets, we can ride our subway, we can practice our religion, all in freedom and safety and with the education of our children without being attacked for it.”

Regarding the support for him from the Jewish communities, he said, “We feel great with the support that comes from the Orthodox Jewish community, from the Hasidic community, it came from Brooklyn, Rockland County, Kiryat Yoel which is in Orange County, many of these people support us, very influential leaders support us.”

In addition, candidate Lee Zeldin received a great deal of support, with the influential Flatbush Jewish Community Organization (FJCC) throwing its support behind the Republican’s campaign.

The approval was made official at a meeting in Flatbush between a representative of Zeldin, rabbis, FJCC leaders and community members and activists including Rabbi Avraham Fruchtendler, president of Yeshiva Chaim Berlin and others, some of whom have so far avoided entering the thorny field of political support, the meeting took place at the home of Rabbi Yisrael Reisman of the Israel Defense Forces Rosh Yeshiva Torah and Deed The FJCC represents more than 200 schools and yeshivas, hundreds of local business owners and tens of thousands of local residents, the Yeshiva world news website reported.

The support for Zeldin is largely due to Governor Kathy Hochul’s refusal to clarify her position regarding the meetings attacked by the New York City Council, and the requirement that the boys study core studies. In comparison, Zeldin visited a large number of yeshiva throughout the country, during which he repeatedly expressed his unwavering support for yeshiva education, and came out against new regulations of “substantial equality” that threaten to harm the yeshiva’s ability to provide ultra-orthodox education.
