A university professor in the US state of Arizona insulted a Muslim student and tried to hit her and use offensive words during a pro-Palestine demonstration in front of the university.
In a video clip circulated on social media, “the university professor, Jonathan Yudelman, and another man, whose identity has not been determined, appeared confronting the woman who was wearing the hijab.”
Yudelman said, as he approached the woman and described her with offensive words: “I am literally in your face – that’s true.” The woman then said: “You do not respect my religious boundaries,” to which he responded, saying: “You do not respect my sense of humanity,” and then she asked him to stay away. Through her, he gets up and asks her to leave and asks: “Who invited you to come?”
In a statement, the Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the incident, calling on “law enforcement to arrest Arizona State University professor Jonathan Yudelman on charges of assaulting a veiled Muslim woman while participating in a pro-Israel demonstration near the campus.”
“Such behavior is not only discriminatory, but also violates the basic principles of academic integrity and respect for diversity that professors must uphold inside and outside the classroom,” said Azza Abu Seif, the chapter’s executive director, who called on ASU to fire Yudelman.
