Water desalination: Moroccan approach is “extremely important” to address water stress (Argentine expert)

Buenos Aires – The president of the Professional Council of Agronomic Engineering (CPIA) in Argentina, Claudio D. Gonzalez, described as “extremely important” the approach adopted by Morocco to address water stress, through the desalination of seawater, particularly for irrigation purposes.

“It seems to me extremely important that it (Morocco) tackles this problem from this desalination approach,” Claudio D. Gonzalez said in a statement to MAP.

Taking into account “the nature of the region in which Morocco is located, the use of desalination is the future of water use, both for energy production, drinking water or crop irrigation,” continued the president of the CPIA.

Claudio D. Gonzalez considered that the success of any desalination project depends on substantial financial resources, but above all on well-trained human resources who are capable of guaranteeing effective management of this increasingly scarce resource.

“It is in this context that cooperation between Argentina and Morocco would bring more efficiency in the use of water or risk management,” he suggested.

In this regard, he emphasized the call launched by HM King Mohammed VI for the creation of training courses for engineers and technicians specialized in water desalination.
