Water resources are an important part of the COP29 agenda.

As reported on Thursday by Day.Az with reference to Trend, this was stated by the Director of Political Research, Analysis and Publications of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy of the ADA University, Damjan Krnjević Mišković, during a training session at the ADA University.

“Water resources are an important part of the action agenda and the thematic programme of the COP29 presidency. Addressing the water issue in the context of climate finance requires a comprehensive approach. This process involves not only the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, but also universities, think tanks, the private sector, international and regional banks, NGOs, individuals and other parties,” he said.

Krnjevic Mišković noted that the pillars of the COP29 presidency concept are related to aspects of financing mitigation, adaptation and resilience to climate change, and, most importantly, they are directly related to water issues.

He stressed that the main negotiating priority of the COP29 presidency is to reach agreement on a new collective quantified goal on climate finance (NCQG).

“The previous minimum funding level was $100 billion, and it was not met on time and in full. This previous figure, $100 billion, is not even close to enough for the developing world to be able to abandon the hydrocarbon-based economy,” said Crnevich Miskovic.
