Thiruvananthapuram: KIFB financial sanction of `2134.50 crore for Kerala’s dream project Wayanad tunnel (Anakampoil-Kalladi-Meppadi tunnel road). Public Works Minister PA Mohammad Riyaz made the announcement in a Facebook post.

This road connects Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. With the completion of the tunnel, the traffic congestion in the Thamarassery pass will be resolved.

The tunnel will be built from Kalladi to Marippuzha Swargam hill in Anakampoi. The total length is 7.82 km. The length of the tunnel from Swargam Hill to Kalladi will be 6.8 km.

If implemented, the Anakampoil-Kalladi-Meppadi tunnel road will become the longest tunnel in the state. The tunnel as an alternative to Wayanad Pass is one of the major projects of the Public Works Department.

The survey of the proposed route began in September 2020. The previous Pinarayi government had sanctioned Rs 658 crore from Kifbi for administrative sanction. The tunnel is expected to be completed within three years of construction.
