Baghdad / Obelisk Event:

Muhammad Hassan Al-Saadi

It seems that the political arena in Iraq has become changing and full of surprises, which gives us an important lesson that nothing is constant, and only slogans remain that will not provide anything in the way of action that should find its way to implementation. This is what we saw in the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, which decided to cancel the membership of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mr. Muhammad Rikan Al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of lawsuits, the most important of which was “forgery,” which was a shocking surprise, not only for the person of Al-Halbousi, but for everyone, and in the same direction, it expressed the strength and cohesion of the judicial authority and its lack of influence by political reality.

The authority that was given to Al-Halbousi during the time of former Prime Minister “Mustafa Al-Kadhimi” strongly made him undesirable in the Western social environment, and this rapid consolidation of his power led to the alienation of Sunnis and Shiites from him, as the issue that led to his dismissal is one of several issues that coincide with This dismissal came amid a number of claims and grievances raised by a number of tribal sheikhs, politicians, and activists, which saw that Al-Halbousi, during the recent period, sought to build a large political and economic empire through operations to encroach on public funds and use political influence to liquidate his rivals, pursue them, and issue arrest warrants against them.

The files persecuting Al-Halbousi and his aides are many, but the most important of them is the monopoly of government contracts, directing these contracts to companies owned by relatives and loyalists in exchange for bribes given to them, in addition to transferring the funds allocated to the beneficiaries of the social security program to them, selling state-owned lands illegally to private sector investors, and exploiting the funds. allocated for the reconstruction of areas affected by terrorist operations, which amounted to more than $800 million.

Foreign-Policy magazine, which shed light on these suspicious dealings, reviewed documents showing the allocation of $4.6 million to provide vehicles to the local security and intelligence services in Anbar, including $3.1 million to the Anbar branch of the National Security Service, although the Fund’s funds Reconstruction is dedicated to the reconstruction of homes, bridges, and schools in Anbar, and this was actually reflected in Al-Halbousi’s unchallenged control and influence over the reins of control and governance.

Al-Sayyid Al-Sudani’s government began restoring the executive powers that Al-Halbousi had seized by pursuing those loyal to him and those accused of major corruption files in the governorate, after Mustafa Al-Kadhimi released Al-Halbousi’s hand after the formation of the tripartite alliance, which was unable to form the government after the 2021 elections.

After the Federal Supreme Court’s decision to cancel Al-Halbousi’s membership, the federal government must pursue all media statements and insinuations calling for rejecting the Federal Court’s decision, and apply the law to anyone who threatens civil peace and the internal stability of the country.
