In Peru, the governor of La Libertad, César Acuña, said “we are corrupt” in the middle of a speech, this has made him the center of attention on social networks due to the verbal slip during a public event of his party, Alliance for Progress (APP).
In a video captured by attendees of the political event, Acuña is heard saying: “APP, we are a different breed, but we are corrupt”which has sparked controversy and debate online.
Some interpret his words as an act of sinceritywhile others suggest that he may have meant the opposite, that are not corrupt. However, the speed with which she spoke made it difficult to clarify the sentence.
During his speech, Acuña emphasized that he and his party are different because they do not steal, stating: “We are not scoundrels, we do not steal hope […] We are not corrupt“We are not scoundrels.”.
The Peruvian journalist Beto Ortiz commented on the matter, pointing out that honest people do not need to proclaim that they do not steal, since it is something obvious. In his opinion, those under suspicion are the ones who feel the need to make such claims.
